Liska’s Enduring Spiritual Legacy

Since the early 1800s, Liska has been a key center of Jewish life, known for its thriving cultural and religious community. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. Liska contains over 500 Jewish historical sites, from cemeteries to synagogues, embodying a storied heritage. By the late 1800s, Liska had a largely Jewish population, with around 3,000 residents contributing to its vibrant life. The influence of Liska’s heritage extends to nearby towns like Kerestir, shaping Jewish life across Hungary.
